Prof Timothy Perren explains the results of the ICON7 trial investigating the use of bevacizumab to treat advanced ovarian cancer. This trial compared standard chemotherapy of carboplatin and paclitaxel with a treatment programme of carboplatin, paclitaxel and bevacizumab. Disease progression was found to be delayed and occurred less frequently in the bevacizumab group. Prof Perren discusses how representative the patient population was, considers the effect of residual disease status and outlines some of the side effects.
